The AFI vehicle to pursue our major project is christened “A Societal Awareness Campaign Against Drug Abuse” #ASACADA. Seeing that drug abuse is ruining our society, the founder launched this campaign advocacy to assist government in reducing the scourge. So many brilliant youths have been ruined due to intake of hard drug substances. Some as a result of depression, some as a result of peer group pressure and others to high themselves. So in the same December 2015, we had a road show at Jabi park, Abuja where the foundation sensitized the populace on the danger of drug abuse.
In 2016, we observed the first international world drug day on June 26th being a day set aside for the commemoration of world drug day. We formally held a ROADSHOW throughout Lagos metropolis via National Stadium-Ojuelegba- Mushin-Oshodi-Ikeja-Alausa-Ojota-Maryland-Palmgrove-Onipanu-Yaba-Tejuosho-Ojuelegba-Teslim Balogun Stadium with overwhelming success. So many dropped their bad habit after our counseling efforts.
In 2017, we held a Talk Show with the youth drawn from 20 different schools and youths from other organizations across Lagos State to discuss issues of drug abuse at the National Art Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos. NDLEA, Police and United nations on drug and crime, Country Representative were in attendance. After the Talk Show many things were revealed on the dangers of drug abuse among the youth. The youths were definite in condemning the drug intake and its harmful effects on the society. Prizes were won by the schools that stretched more on the effects of drug abuse.
In 2018, 26th June our foundation embarked on what we tagged; The market storms with a flag-off at the Police College, Ikeja where the Commissioner of Police Lagos State Command, Police College Commandant, NDLEA Officers performed the official laying of wreaths and also observe a minute silence for the fallen officers and other victims of drug menace.
That year event was epocal because the designated markets viz; Coker Market, Trade Fair Complex (BBA), Computer Village, Yaba, Oyingbo etc. Welcomed us tremendously especially Coka market that closed their markets to honour the event.
In the year 2019, June 26th we commemorated the day with a theme; Village Storms “ tegged” Grass Root Against Drug Abuse that took us to Ibeju Lekki, Ikorodu, Oto-Awori, Apapa, Yaba with youths going round the metropolis. We were welcomed with emcumeoums by all the Obas and the community leaders.
Our strategic partners are NDLEA, the Police and the medical team of The Triumph Medical Center, Ikeja. They have been effectively collaborating with us in this advocacy.
SCHOOLS OUTREACH: Our school outreach advocacy has taken us to so many schools notably Kings College, Lagos and Queens College, Yaba, The objective of the school outreach is to establish drug awareness clubs in the schools. As we are engaged in bettering the society, we have other arms like AFI GLOBAL TOUR for relaxation and VANGUARD FOR GOOD GOVERNANCE as our advocacy for building a better society.
